In the latest bahn manager interview, Andreas Schaller, CEO of Boom Software AG, talks about the biggest challenges facing the rail industry and why it is so important to bring companies on board effectively when it comes to digitalization.
Only with a reliable data foundation – in terms of both quality and quantity – can advanced solutions such as predictive maintenance models or AI-supported analyses for the early detection of damage be implemented.
In railway vehicle maintenance, stakeholders with different levels of digitalization work closely together. To make this collaboration more efficient, we developed the booking and communication platform ECM Connector.
The free software solution specifically connects ECM 3 and ECM 4, bringing together the commissioning of maintenance services, communication, and the exchange of documentation. Companies can benefit from ECM Connector regardless of their current level of digitalization.
INFRATRACK test and innovation center is driving the rail industry forward
Together with PJ Messtechnik, we have established the INFRATRACK Test and Innovation Center on the site of the decommissioned coal-fired power plant in Mellach.
We are sustainably preserving and making use of existing infrastructure. The facility enables testing in areas such as derailment safety, noise and vibration measurements, investigations into torsional vibrations of wheelsets, as well as testing the interaction between sensors and software.
With INFRATRACK, we are not only creating testing opportunities, but also providing valuable stabling tracks for railway vehicles – helping to close a gap in the market.
As part of the project, we also developed a software solution for planning and coordinating all relevant processes at a private railway siding – from shunting operations and the planning of storage and test runs to maintenance activities and service billing.

In rail transport, the topic of safety is extremely wide-ranging and complex - this is primarily because the protection of life and limb, of passengers, residents and people involved in rail operations, as well as of resources such as vehicles and infrastructures, is paramount.
MorePutting one's eye toward rail-specific processes, the controversial question is often which system should be used by transport companies to digitalize these processes.
MoreThe fault indication app was specially developed to offer train drivers, train attendants and machine operators an uncomplicated and efficient way to generate fault indications.
